Silica Structural Unit.
Silica structural unit is formed with one (SiO4)
tetrahedron, that is, with one silica atom always surrounded
by four oxygen atoms, giving as a result a combination of
uneven silica tetrahedrons asymmetrically arranged. On the
other hand, crystal has an orderly atomic structure symmetrically
arranged. Both types of silica, amorphous and orderly, are
extensively used in glass making.
